Dr. Mel Levine prefers another term.

“They are not lazy; they have output failure,” Levine writes in The Myth of Laziness, now in paperback.

Levine makes the case that “laziness is not an innate trait. We all are born with a drive to produce.” But some have neurodevelopmental problems that can interfere. “Often they face accusations of laziness.
