Anger can have ‘devastating effects’ on long-term health

Problems with anger can cause significant long-term damage to health, the Mental Health Foundation has warned.

While anger management is linked to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety, the effects of ‘problem anger’ can also prove detrimental to a sufferer’s physical health and wellbeing.

Dr Andrew McCulloch, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation, explained: "Problem anger can have devastating health consequences.

"Coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer and even colds and flu have all been linked with anger."

Data taken from a recent poll revealed that more than one in ten (12 per cent) of adults admit to having trouble controlling their own anger, with 64 per cent either strongly agreeing or agreeing that people in general are getting angrier.

Dr McCulloch added: "Some experts think that rapid social changes over the last few decades are leading to an increase in mental and emotional health problems, such as problem anger."ADNFCR-1506-ID-18575225-ADNFCR
