Vitamin E May Slow Mental Decline

Eating a diet rich in vitamin E, or taking a daily vitamin E supplement could help to slow age-related mental decline, suggest results of a recent study. Dr Martha Clare Morris and her colleagues at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago found that consuming high levels of the antioxidant vitamin can slow the rate of mental decline by more than one third. Results showed that the rate of decline among those with the highest intake was 36% slower than that of those who consumed the least. The same researchers recently published research suggesting that a high intake of vitamin E could lower the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by as much as 70%.
