Vitamin E and C Supplements for Mental Function in Seniors

Dr. K. Masaki and colleagues tracked the dietary habits and health of 3,385 elderly Japanese American residents of Hawaii since the early 1980’s. During the 1990’s, the men (then ages 71-93) were evaluated for cognitive function (including memory) and dementia (senility). Men who regularly took vitamin E and C supplements were 88% less likely to develop vascular dementia, a type of mental decline related to blood vessel damage in the brain.
