Drinking tea may help to keep bones strong and healthy, recent study results suggest. Researchers found that men and women who had been drinking tea regularly for at least 10-years had significantly stronger bones than non-tea drinkers, regardless of the type of tea or how much they drunk. In fact, the researchers believe that long-term tea drinking may boost bone mineral density by as much as 5%. Study leader Dr. Chih-Hsing Wu and colleagues suspect that the fluoride, phytoestrogens, and flavonoids found in tea are responsible for its bone-protecting effects. Aside from water, tea is the most common beverage drunk regularly by adults.
