Brazilian researchers have reported that they have managed to restore feeling in patients paralysed for two years or more. Professor Tarciscio Barros from the University of San Paulo harvested stem cells from the blood pf 30 spinal cord patients and reintroduced them into the artery supplying the area of the spinal cord that was damaged. Tests on the patients showed that within two to six months of treatment 12 out of the 30 patients showed a response to electrical stimulation tests.
