More Than Ever Men Are Undergoing Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Procedures

Traditionally body image and issues with appearance have been associated with and discussed with women, however these issues are becoming more prevalent for men. More than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures are suggested to have been performed on American men in 2017 in the report.

“Men are talking to each other about plastic surgery and the results, as the stigma drops more men are asking about which procedures may be right for them”, says Dr. Lorelei Grunwaldt who says she can see looks of relief on their faces after she explains the range of surgeries available. Just as for women, when men have a procedure on an area of their body they are self conscious about it can make a difference and positive impact on how they see themselves.

Common cosmetic procedures once associated with women are becoming popular among men. Among men tummy tucks have increased by 12%; liposuction procedures have increased by 23%; and breast reduction surgery for men has spiked the highest increasing 30% over the past 5 years.

Plastic surgery among the male population is rising in all age groups, for example men in the retirement age group favour minimally invasive procedures such as Botox and filler injections, and younger men are looking for body contouring surgeries; since 2000 Botox procedure have quadrupled and filler injections have increased by 99%.

“It is being called the executive edge as most older male patients report they want to look younger so they can continue to compete in the workplace, but most often then just want to look as young as they feel.” according to Dr. Jeffrey Janis, who adds “With any procedure it is recommended to visit a board certified surgeon to ensure highest levels of satisfaction and safety.”
