Epsom Salts

Epsom salts are not sodium, it is cyrstal of hydrated magnesium sulfate. The name is lended from a bitter saline spring in Epsom, Surrey, England. It is a pure mineral compound known as a natural remedy for a wide variety of a number of ailments. Epsom salts come in different grades for different uses, such as for agricultural or human use; only those labeled USP and contain drugs facts are safe for human use as it verifies these salts are manufactures, tested, and certified to meet FDA and USP regulatory standards.

 

Epsom salt baths can help manage stress. Stress drains the body of magnesium, one study showed that when dissolved into warm water the magnesium was absorbed through the skin. Helping to replenish magnesium levels promoting a feeling of calm and relaxation.

 

Epsom salts can soothe and soften rough skin on the body and feet, and make a great start to a home pedicure. Add one cup of epsom salts to a foot bath and soak for 10 minutes to soften up those rough feet, and also help eliminate any foot odor.

 

Epsom salts are a tried and true home remedy for aching sore muscles thanks to that magnesium which is an electrolyte for human metabolism. Epsom salts break down into sulfate and magnesium in warm water, when you soak it gets absorbed into the body via the skin to relax sore joints and muscles. A nice soothing bath right before bedtime can also help to promote better sleep.

 

Pain and inflammation associated with gout can be reduced with an epsom salt soak by simply immersing the affected joint into a bath and soak for 30 minutes. Epsom salts can also help to ease the pain and inflammation for ingrown toenails that dig into the skin.

 

Epsom salts are said to be ideal for exfoliating the skin. Dry, rough, patchy skin must be exfoliated to remove dead skin cell build up. Mixing about a half cup of epsom salts with half cup of olive oil or coconut oil to make a scrub, then rub it on your skin in the shower and rinse it off.

 

Some claim that epsom salts baths can flush harmful toxins and heavy metals from the body in a detoxifying bath of 2 cups of epsom salts to warm water and soaking for at least 12 minutes. For an added relaxing and aromatherapy benefit add lavender or eucalyptus essential oils.

 

Epsom salts are known to help alleviate constipation, as it can help relax your gut and help soften stool thanks once again to the magnesium absorbed through the skin.

 

Epsom salts have been used for therapeutic benefits for generations as a great way to unwind and replenish the body of much needed magnesium. Epsom salt baths can also be combined with essential oils to boost and add other effects, at the very least it provides a few moments of alone time to just relax and unwind, making it well worth it.
