Device Aims to Restore Memory

Over 300,000 US military men and women have sustained traumatic brain injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan. The United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) reveals new technology for a brain implant, the goal of which is to restore a wounded soldier’s memory.  An implantable neural interface can detect and record brain signals, allowing persons who have lost the use of arms and legs to have point-and-click control of a computer.  The neuroprosthetic device directly interfaces with the hippocampus, enabling the restoration declarative memories – recollections of people, events, facts and figures.
