Cholesterol May Be Affecting Your Love Life

High levels can not only be troublesome but also it could pose some serious health complications. Knowing the warning signs and correction of diet can help to reduce the risk, and if you are a man suffering with erectile dysfunction it could even be due to high levels of cholesterol caused by lack of blood flow.

Another symptom could be yellow growth under the skin of the eyelids. This is called xanthelasma and these fatty materials contain lipids, including cholesterol, usually appear symmetrically between the eyes and nose. While these may be symptoms of high levels of cholesterol they can also be due to other conditions. Meaning that you should make sure that your cholesterol gets checked along with the others tests to find out the cause.

Too much LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream can create arterial plaque that damages tissues and blocks blood flow; and these blockages will result in inadequate circulation of blood throughout the system which includes the penis and genital area. When there is a circulation issue not only does the heart become affected but erection problems can occur as well which is caused as a side effect of high cholesterol levels.

High cholesterol can make it more difficult for the body to produce the necessary chemicals for a man to create an erection. High levels can affect the body’s ability to properly release nitric oxide into the bloodstream which prevents the proper relaxation of penile tissues to cause engorgement. The higher the LDL cholesterol levels are the more likely it is that a man will develop erection problems, and severe cases can even lead to impotence.

It is important to keep in mind that erectile dysfunction and high cholesterol could be an underlying cause of another problem, but these problems are typically reversible. Testosterone production is affected by high levels of cholesterol, and testosterone is responsible for the secondary sex characteristics of men. High levels also limit blood flow to the testicles which could damage their ability to produce testosterone.

Those with high cholesterol levels most often do not know that they have it as there really are no obvious symptoms which is why it is important to be tested. High cholesterol levels can be a serious health condition because it can block blood vessels putting you at risk for heart problems and stroke.

When it comes to high cholesterol there are several risk factors to take into consideration such as family history, low physical activity level, smoking, alcohol, and bad eating habits. If you fit into a few more than one of these categories you may be at risk, as such you should keep an eye on your health.
