Anti-aging physicians ‘need to address hearing health’

Charities have called for anti-aging physicians to ensure older patients have access to information on ways of coping with hearing loss.

As deterred hearing can be part of the aging process, senior audiology specialist Angela King said that aging people require more information regarding good hearing health.

Research has shown that people delay getting their hearing tested an average of 15 years after they first suspect a problem.

Ruth Pollard, an audiology information officer for hearing charity RNID, said: "Lip-reading classes are mostly attended by the 65 plus age group and are social networking opportunities for retirees, as well as being lip-reading tuition."

According to statistics, one in every ten Americans suffers from hearing loss. This number is expected to double by 2030, as baby boomers reach retirement age from 2010.

Research has shown that among older people in the US hearing loss is the third most prevalent disabling condition, after arthritis and hypertension.ADNFCR-1506-ID-18615441-ADNFCR
