3 Approved Nutrition Tips to Boost Your Immune System

1. Eat More Whole Plant Foods

Eating whole plant foods enhances your immune system. They contain phytochemicals and antioxidants that will keep your T-cells healthy in readiness to protect you from any microorganisms and germs. T-cells play a vital role in supporting your immune system. They are responsible for protecting your body from invading pathogens that cause diseases and illnesses. T-cells are a type of white blood cells (lymphocytes) that fight off infections. They feed on what you eat and how you take care of your body. They work by scanning your body and detecting any cellular abnormalities. To boost these T-cells, you can eat whole plant foods or plant-based diets. These diets include taking;

  • Wholefoods(unprocessed)
  • Limited animal products
  • Eating plants such as vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, seeds, and nuts
  • Eliminating refined foods such as sugars, white flour, and processed oils
  • Eat organic foods as much as you can

2. Take Enough Water

Water works wonders in your body. We all know that water contains a generous amount of hydrogen and oxygen. When you drink water, it helps carry oxygen to your body cells, resulting in properly functioning body systems, including the immune system. Even better, drinking water eliminates toxins from building in your body and negatively impacting your immunity. If you keep records, you can remember all the times that you went to the hospital and the doctor insisted that you take a lot of water. It is a universal healer. While it is recommended that you take up to eight glasses in a day, it is essential to know that our bodies are different. Depending on your lifestyle, daily activities, and body type, you may have to take more water than your friends. Age is also a significant determinant in this; a six-month-old baby will take less water than a middle-aged man.

3. Supplement Your Body

There are essential nutrients that our body should take to enhance immunity. These supplements work faster and are quickly absorbed into the body than the regular foodstuff nutrients. For example, citrus fruits like oranges and lemon contain a high content of Vitamin C. Now, taking the fruits is a great idea, but the absorption takes much longer. Here are some supplements that you can take;

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Zinc
  • Echinacea
  • Garlic
  • Elderberry

Talk to your doctor and know the correct amounts to consume as they differ from one person to another.

Conclusion

As you can see, the immune system is not a single entity. It depends on what you eat and how you take care of your body. Besides eating the right food, supplementing your body, and taking enough fluids, you must also regularly exercise. Before you begin exercising or making any changes to your diet including supplements, get in touch with your physician and fitness coach so that you can know the best exercises to undertake. This is because prolonged and intense exercise can suppress your immune system, while moderate exercise gives the body an immune boost. Understanding all this enhances your body’s immunity.
