Early Alzheimer’s Detection

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia among older people, affecting about 4.5 million Americans. Although science is constantly advancing in understanding this disease, the causes are unknown, and there is no cure. Scientists do know age is the single most important risk factor, and genetics as well can play a role.

Scientists have also found certain characteristics in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s. This includes a loss of nerve cells in areas of the brain that affect memory and other mental abilities. Lower levels of necessary brain chemicals also hinder communication between nerve cells.
