With aging, the combined effects of photo injury, fat atrophy, and changes in facial muscle balance cause both wrinkles and contour defects. The best approach to lower facial enhancement involves restoring volume loss. Poly-L-lactic acid is a volumetric filler used for facial sculpting. The properties, risks, indications, and contraindications of poly-L-lactic acid will be reviewed, as well as the clinical trials leading to the substance’s FDA approval.
