The Mediterranean diet has been shown to lower the risk of age-associated diseases – most notably, heart disease. Iliana Lourida, from the University of Exeter (United Kingdom), and colleagues completed a meta-review of 12 clinical studies that involved the Mediterranean diet. The team found that subjects who most closely adhered to a Mediterranean diet showed better cognitive function and lower rates of cognitive decline. Also, those participants who consumed the Mediterranean diet will have reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
