80% of the respondents think that the first cup of coffee in the morning helps to motivate them to get out of bed, and according to the numbers 81% report drinking 460 cups a year on average. 48% of the respondents prefer their java hot, 20% like cold brew, 18% enjoy iced coffee, 7% like frozen or blended coffee, and 5% need to have espresso-based options. 86% of those who prefer cold brew coffee are most likely to be motivated by that first-morning cup, 83% of those who prefer hot coffee were likely to say the same, 76% of those who prefer iced/frozen coffee feel the same, and 66% of those who prefer blended coffee beverages were likely to also share the same sentiments.
Surprisingly, many of the respondents would give up a fair bit in order to keep enjoying their cuppa Joe. 42% of those who drink hot coffee would give up their online social media accounts rather than give up coffee while only 17% said they would give up coffee to keep social media. 31% of cold brew drinkers would give up social media to keep coffee while 38% would rather give up coffee to keep social media.
48% of the coffee drinkers have begun to experiment at home to try and recreate their favorite cafe brews, and apparently, they are becoming successful with 92% of the respondents who have made recreations reporting being satisfied with their results. Yet making coffee at home still isn’t the same as having an expert make it, 71% of the respondents feel that it is important to have their beverages prepared by a skilled barista to unlock their full potential.
“Whether it’s that fresh-hot cup from the kitchen coffee maker or a crafted beverage from a coffee shop drive-through, Americans have a long-standing love with their coffee routine,” says Brandi Goodin, BUNN Vice President of Marketing Communications, in a statement.
Only 27% of the respondents would rate their home brews as being excellent due to various challenges. 48% report struggling to measure the correct amount of coffee, 48% haven’t been able to achieve the correct grind size, and 44% haven’t found a filter that does the job right. But home coffee brewers aren’t ready to give up yet with 74% reporting that they are likely to continue to experiment with new brewing methods in their attempts at improvement.
Making that perfect cup of coffee at home isn’t as easy as it would seem, and some variations actually require a fair amount of skill and finesse to get everything to come together just right. 61% of the respondents are concerned with the ease of preparation when it comes to making home-brewed coffee, 51% are concerned about the cost of all the equipment that is required, and 44% are more concerned with the amount of prep and brew time that it takes to make a cup of coffee.
“Brewing coffee is a scientific process with a range of variables including brew time, temperature and turbulence to create the perfect cup,” Goodin explains. “For those looking to improve their coffee-brewing skills at home, my advice is to experiment with different techniques, like variations in grind size or adjusting the amount of coffee used.”
“While measuring correctly and using quality coffee beans are vital, the importance of having the right equipment cannot be overlooked. Investing in the right brewing equipment will elevate your coffee experience to new heights. Bottom line: find what works for you and have fun with it!”
