Omega-3 Linked To Healthier Aging

Cumulative levels of plasma phospholipid n-3 PUFAs were measured in over 2600 older adults at 3 different points in time over a 13 years period, it was found that higher levels of long chain n-3 PUFAs were associated with an 18% lower chance of unhealthy aging. N-3 PUFAs from seafood in particular, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid were associated with healthier living.

According to the researchers higher levels of omega-3 from seafood were associated with a higher likelihood of healthy aging, people with the highest blood levels of omega-3s reported consuming fish servings at least twice a week.
