Drinking a small amount of alcohol each day may help women stay mentally alert in their later years, say researchers from Harvard School of Public Health. The study of more than 9,000 women aged 70-79 revealed that women who regularly drank small amounts of alcohol were more likely to score better on memory tests than teetotallers. Study leader Dr Meir Stampfer, said: “The effect we saw on cognitive function from alcohol was the equivalent of being 1 or 2 years younger.”
