Few Would-Be-Dieters Exercise or Count Calories

The majority of overweight people are adamant that they want to lose weight, yet results of a recent study have revealed that few do little to achieve their wish. Researchers from the Mayo Clinic found that just one in three people who say they are trying to lose weight take regular exercise and follow a calorie-controlled diet. The study of 1,224 adults revealed that 73% of men and 85% of women were currently trying to lose weight or to avoid gaining more weight. On average, men were aiming to shed 23.4 pounds while women were hoping to shift 28 pounds of excess fat. However, just one third of those trying to lose weight and one fifth of participants trying to avoid putting on more weight actually did anything about it. 61% of US adults are currently clinically obese or overweight.
